Deathwalking/Psychopomp

One of the many healing services offered at Coyote Moon Healing Center and Farms is shamanic journey work to check on and help those who have passed away to ensure they have fully made the transition into the Light after death of the earthly body.  In shamanic traditions, this work is called “psychopomp work” or “deathwalking.  Psychopomps (from the Greek word (psychopompos), which literally means "guide of souls") are those whose responsibility is to escort deceased souls to the afterlife. Their role is not to judge the deceased, but simply to provide safe passage.  This may include not only accompanying the soul of the dead, but also vice versa: to help at birth, to introduce the newborn child's soul to the world.  This also accounts for the contemporary title of "midwife to the dying," which is another form of psychopomp work.  Each healer journeys in their own way, guided by Spirit, and receives information (often in metaphor form) to help assist the departed.  Please know that each journey and psychopomp experience is different because each person’s death experience is different. 

Shamanic healers take requests for checking on and helping the transitions of loved ones who have passed away.  A shamanic journey is completed to assist the departed one, and a written report of that journey is prepared and provided to the person who requested the Death Walking Services.  Description of the healing work includes each healer’s own unique spiritual guidance and metaphorical descriptions of the post-death transition and afterlife.  This service is offered with the hope that the assistance provided to the loved one and the information provided to the requester brings a sense of comfort and solace at this important time of transition. 

Our shamanic healing practitioners are also available to assist individuals and families of individuals who are in the dying process to help the one who is leaving this life to make an easeful transition and to support those who remain.
